Oviedo and Altamira Cave

Visiting both UNESCO World Heritage Sites, we complete the last route of the tour. On our way back, we"ll visit Oviedo, the historic capital of Asturias, known as an outdoor living museum and famous in the Woody Allen film "Vicky, Cristina Barcelona." Its classical heritage is well worth a stop. The Altamira Cave is also a must see, the world’s first cave in which Paleolithic paintings were discovered in 1880. Many caves in the north of Spain conserve paintings, but not so complex nor as artistically intricate as Altamira’s work. The latest research date the paintings back previously to around 35,000 years. Santillana del Mar, the charming village where the cave is located, is a really beautiful village to visit as well.
